Founded in 1990, Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre creates original, multi-disciplinary dance-based performances centered at the heart of our human experiences. The company engages in a collaborative, ensemble-based process to explore personal, social, political, and environmental issues cultivating inclusive creative opportunities for diverse audiences and participants through performances, community projects, workshops, and educational residencies.

Artistic Director, Andrea Ariel is a Certified Multi-disciplinary Soundpainter & Educator and is well respected for her innovations with the form. She has worked with Walter Thompson since 1998 and was an instrumental part of the early development years at Think Tanks in Woodstock, NY from 1999-2005. AADT hosted two collaborations with Thompson with her company in Austin, Texas in 1999 and 2001. Since that time Andrea has continued her work in Austin and with Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble in NYC. She has participated in eight International Think Tanks held in various cities in Italy and Spain.

AADT is the only company practicing and promoting Soundpainting in Texas and has produced several evening-length works using Soundpainting including The Bowie Project (2014, 2015, 2017), Locked-In (2018), and Rally (2019) and a collaboration with the band Frederico 7 y Los Primes for a concert remixing and creating live compositions from their album Exótico Americano (2024). The company’s current Soundpainting project is a collaboration with nine members of Austin Unconducted’s string orchestra presented by KMFA Classical 89.5’s Offbeat Concert Series.
